Soap!

Alabama Hill Soap and Honey started making soap in 2014. We make an unique collection of handcrafted soaps! All of our handcrafted soap is made in small batches, using either cold process or hot process soap making. We use the premium ingredients, starting with a variety of vegetable oils such as olive, sunflower oil, coconut, meadowfoam oil and a varity butters that are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients that are essential to healthy skin. We make both cold process and hot process soaps, using a process called “saponification“. Saponification is when oil (animal or vegetable oil), water and lye are mixed together in correct proportions, combine and chemically change into soap.

Do you know what the difference is between handmade soap and commercially made soap? Handmade soap differs from industrially made soap in that an excess of fat is used “superfatting”, and glycerol (glycerine) are left, which acts as a moisturizing agent. This glycerine also makes the soap softer. Handmade soap is more skin-friendly than one without extra fat and may leave a “greasy” feel sometimes. With commercial soaps, during the soap making process the glycerine is distilled out. Commercial soaps may also add an detergent call Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which is an cleaning and lathering agent.

So what’s the big deal about using goat milk in soap? We take pride in producing luxury quality soaps using lavender from our very own garden, honey from our own bee hives, goat milk from our goats. We specialize in making goat milk soap. Our goat milk is from our own Kinder goats, which are milk by hand. Goat milk is rich in saturated and unsaturated fats, making it rich and creamy. Goat milk soap is gentle, nourishing, moisturizing, naturally contains vitamin A, and Alpha-hydroxy acids which is effective in removal of dead skin cells.
